Does bringing up our off-spring in the face of hardships, be they emotional, physical or financial, oblige our children to be committed to us? Should we then compel them to live their own lives in our shadow and be at our beck and call? Must the children give up on their individual lives, particularly when a parent is possessive? Does it mean that if children pursue their own lives, they are being selfish? These are some of the questions that writer Iravati Karnik attempts to ask through her Marathi play CHAPA KATA. Co-produced by Anamika and Rasika Productions, and directed by Sameer Vidwans, this is a family drama dealing with parent-child relationships.

A play in Gujarati, "Mareez”, is a fantasia on the theme of poetic improvisation. The play is a deep serious exploration of the poetic impulse based on the life of Mareez: poet, writer of beautiful ghazals, lover of alcohol; a man who courts any muse visible to him; a man reduced to selling his poetry to businessmen who pass it off as their own. The play is based on Raish Maniaar's book- "Mareez": Astitva ane Vyaktitva. In the artificial split between high culture and pop culture, Mareez makes his appearance like a colossus. As all creative geniuses do, Mareez completely redefined the ground rules of shayri, a genre made famous by Urdu ghazalkars. Manoj Shah's production brings alive the life and times of this underrated poet with a palpable energy. Gulam Mohammed Sheikh's backdrop is sublimely beautiful, providing the perfect setting to a biographical play interspersed with the poetry of life.

Chanakya was a great statesman; a political strategist who created a nation out of squabbling kingdoms. The play focusses on the vision of Chanakya of changing the political system of his time to create a benevolent sovereign. Author of Artha Shastra, his struggle meets fruition when his goal is realized through his sheer ingenuity and political brilliance. The play is an attempt to read those glorious pages from the past. It presents an opportunity for introspection towards the society and the leaders of the society. To proclaim that the nation is supreme and selfless love for the nation is the only virtuous selfishness. Family, friends and fortune, all are secondary.
